Why Do we Whistle?

I just got done listening to the story of how Don Hewitt ran the news show 60 minutes for over 40 years. When journalists would ask Don what the secret of his success was, Don would reply: “tell me a story”.

Many times with media, the script comes second to production. But not at TWT! The production must support the story. This is not to say that listening to a well recorded track is not nicer than listening to a track which has been poorly recorded. But I would gladly listen to a great song which has been badly recorded over the opposite any day. If you turned on the radio could you find me a song that started with an idea, a story, and built from there? Maybe on the oldies station, if they were not busy playing “Smoke On the Water” for the billionth time. I would bet that every time Mcdonalds serves a hamburger, Smoke On the Water is played somewhere. This is why TWT seeks new artists who have something to say. I know they are out there, I find them often, hiding out on myspace and other places where songwriters can post their work. Currently, these places are clamping down on access now as well, and we continually have to dig deeper to find the good stories.
